Meenakshi Khosla, Cancer Survivor
"I'm Meenakshi Khosla. I'm a cancer survivor. In 2010 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was shocked; I could not believe this was happening to me. How could I get cancer, I had a healthy and active lifestyle and people like me don't get cancer. These were my first thoughts.
I was lucky; I went for an early check-up and was able to take immediate action. I had a lumpectomy. I was able to save my breast with the guidance of my oncologist and his team.
Through all this I was supported by my loving family, my daughter, son and my husband. But I don't think I would have been able to do this had it not been for the support of my mother. She sat with me through the diagnosis, operation, chemotherapy and through all my treatment. Without the support of a strong social circle I would have not able to make it.
Cancer can happen to anyone, regular health check-ups can save your life. If you do have any signs, it will be easy to detect it at the earliest stage. If detected early many people like me lead a normal life. Today, I have my own enterprise. I consider this my second chance and I'm happy to tell you that life is worth giving cancer a good fight.
Do not fear cancer, it can be treated. Go for regular health check-ups. It will not only save your life, it will save your family from pain, anxiety and expenseâ€.

"When we learnt that my mother had cancer, I knew that I had to be there for her. There is no shame in having cancer; it is like any other disease. If we help our family we can make it together".
