AB Group invests Rs 200 cr, opens multi-speciality hospital in Pune
First phase of 150 beds to be opened on November 14

A tribute from Rajashree Birla and Kumarmangalam Birla to the late Aditya Birla fulfilling his wish to bring a worldclass healthcare facility to India -The Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital (ABMH)-opened its doors to patients in pune on Wednesday. This is the largest OPD facility with 60 consulting rooms, 30 procedure rooms and 150 doctors serving OPD patients.

The Rs 200 crore multi-specialty quaternary hospital is the first corporate hospital from the Aditya Birla Group. The Birlas have tried to set new benchmarks in healthcare by designing and building a totally digital 'medicity' equipped ' with the latest machines and meeting healthcare norms in the US and Europe. It begins as a 500 bed hospital with a scope to double its capacity in the future.

' Dr BK Trivedi, CEO of the Birla Hospital, said that they wanted it to be like the Johns Hopkins, Harvard and Mayo Clinics and offer everything at an affordable cost. "On November 14, the birth anniversary of Aditya Birla, the hospital will launch the first phase comprising 150 beds," Triivedi said. At full capacity there will be 300 doctors and 1,000 support staff.

"The second phase will be operational in six months," Trivedi said. This paperless and filmless hospital will have 13 operation theatres and a 125 ICU bed complex.

"25% of the total beds will be for acute care (lCU beds) matching American standards," 'Trivedi said. The hospital comes with its own roof-top helipad to attend to emergency cases. "We are yet to get govetnment clearance for operating, the helipad, "Trivedi said.

"The hospital offers advanced multi-speciality treatment along with multi-organ . transplants and is placed a notch higher than a tertiary care hospital, "Trivedi said.

There will be a standalone accident and trauma centre, a wellness assessment centre, physiotherapy and rehab centre. "So far we have invested Rs 140crore and a facility to house the relatives of patients is coming up next door," Trivedi said. An 18,000 sq ft atrium for relatives of patients has been integrated into the hospital.

Apart from treatment in major specialities like cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, trauma care, gynecology, GI and ophthalmology, it will also offer sub-speciality treatment for all major specialities.

For instance, in pediatrics, it will offer pediatric oncology, pediatric orthopedics, pediatric cardiology, pediatric surgery and pediatric nephrology. Blending modem and traditional healthcare, ABMH will also offer ,consultation in ayurveda and homeopathy, along with acupressure and acupuncture.
